Content Description

This course provides a concise technical overview of the IBM i platform - covering architecture, Navigator for i and 5250 emulation, essential CL/system commands, the Integrated File System (IFS), libraries/objects, and basic user/authority management. This course is delivered in six short units with quizzes and a hands-on exercise!

Objectives

  • Describe the IBM Power and IBM i architecture, including logical partitions, clustering, capacity on demand, and supported consoles.
  • Use 5250 green-screen displays and Navigator for i to navigate menus, lists, entry and information displays, enter commands, and access online help.
  • Explain the IBM i object model and file systems, including objects, simple versus fully qualified names, libraries, library lists, the Integrated File System (IFS), and IFS data types.
  • Apply CL command concepts by using command prompting, command parameters including conditional parameters, and menus to find and execute commands.
  • Perform basic object and library management tasks such as displaying attributes, creating, copying and duplicating objects and files, creating and listing libraries, and managing the library list and IFS.
  • Differentiate user and group profiles and security authorities by describing steps to create profiles, the role of QDFTOWN, how ownership and public authority are established, and the difference between object management authority and data authority.
